1. The best coffee in GDL. Exit building left 2 blocks on Luis Perez Verdia-corner Ave Mexico.
2. Breakfast /Lunch/Dinner-Chop café- Exit building 2 left then left on Ave Mexico walk 2 blocks left side.
Or great restaurant at corner of Ave Mexico and Perez Verdia. –restaurant “Vino Santo”
3. Fine Dining traditional Mexican Cuisine- “Santo Coyote” a great dining experience. South on Americas and it turns into Union Street. Taxi it.
Other fine dining on Ave Mexico lots to choose- La Mateta (Argentina Steakhouse), “Vino Santo” (Italian), La Tequila (great quality)
On Lopez Cotilla street you have restaurant row-La Moresca, La Paloma, El Nude, etc…..
On la Paz street La Focciata (best Italian food), Talento (Thai Cuisine) and finally for you romantics out there try “LA O” restaurant on Ave Guadalupe Zuno. It’s a great area to walk! On Lopez Meteos you’ll find an unlimited number of fine dining and Night Clubs.
4. Centro- (Downtown)-Cathedral. Exit building go left to Hidalgo (about 3 lights). Hidalgo left one-way street into downtown. Jump on a bus 40 cents or take a cab 50 pesos (give or take). If your daring and in good shape its about a 40 minute walk. Ride the horse carriage once your there! Upon leaving centro take Vallarta St out of centro (its one my favorite streets in the city).
5. La Minerva/ Los Arcos and the Mall- If walking exit building go left to Vallarta (about 4 lights) go right and you run into it.
6. Groceries and Pharmacy- Walmart- (located in Plaza Mexico) Exit building go left to Ave Mexico and go right one and half miles right ( I suggest the bus or a taxi). Pharmacy’s are everywhere. The nearest is on the Ave Mexico and Americas. 7-11 is on the same intersection.
7. Plaza del Sol-( airy outdoor mall )...Located southbound on Lopez Meteos. Too far to walk.
8. Redlight district:Exit building go left to Lopez Cotilla left (lots of nice restuarants) walk 5 blocks to Chapultepec (lot of clubs). Nice walk.
9. If you have time visit Basilica in Zapopan.
10. If you have children visit the zoo or go bowling at Bolerama (Luis Perez Verdia-6 lights south)
OUTSIDE GDL
11. If you have time try visiting the beaches. Nearest beach is Manzanillo-2 and half hours. Puerto Vallarta- 5 hour bus ride but well worth it! 80 bucks round trip. Taxi will drive you to Bus station for around 10 bucks.
12. Tonala- (40 minutes) On Thursdays and Sundays-open market with great art on display and the best souvenir shopping around.
13. Tlaquepaque (30 minutes)- spend the day any day of the week. Art, furniture, and accessories.
14. Chapala/Ajijic-lake. Over an hour.
15. Tequila- (try the tequila express tour) 2hours.
If you happen to be here on a Sunday the city is unusually quite and virtually shuts down since its considered “family day” and a day of rest.
On Vallarta street and Chapultepec from 9a.m.-2p.m. the streets are closed to automobiles and only open for walking and bicycling. It’s a must see.
Also, on Sunday there is the antique fair open all day on Ave Mexico between Americas and Chapultepec. Modern Art is on display in the center island along Chapultepec street all days.
